The Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) laboratory offers unpaid internships and volunteer opportunities for students and community volunteers. These positions offer hands-on experience with cultural material and allow the CAR repository to rehabilitate older collections to meet currently accepted curation standards. Internships are available for academic credit and are open to both undergraduate and graduate-level students. Interns are typically assigned an archaeological collection to rehabilitate under the close supervision of the CAR Laboratory Director.
Volunteering is an excellent way to build credentials in research or lab work, as well as a means to further a passion for archaeology and learning. We will help you track your volunteer hours and can provide letters of reference. Potential volunteer activities may include, but are not limited to: cleaning and cataloging artifacts, archival and curation work, and archaeological research. UTSA policy requires a criminal background check for all candidates. If you are interested in volunteer or internship opportunities at CAR, fill out the Volunteer and Internship Application, and email to Cynthia Munoz . Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
