Welcome Message from the Chair

Welcome to the History Department at the University of Texas at San Antonio,

where world-class scholarship meets transformative teaching. Our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized researchers whose work spans the globe, from the United States and Latin America to the Atlantic World, the Indian Ocean, and the Asia-Pacific. This global expertise enriches every classroom experience, whether in person, online, or hybrid. Our programs are built for impact. Students engage in cutting-edge learning through experiential projects, collaborative research, and skill-based curricula that prepare them for success in a wide range of careers. The History B.A. offers an exciting journey into the discipline, while our Social Studies concentration equips future educators with the tools to inspire the next generation.

At the graduate level, we proudly offer one of the largest and most dynamic M.A. programs in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, along with a new Graduate Certificate in Public History—perfect for those seeking to connect historical knowledge with community engagement and professional practice. And we’re not stopping there: a proposal on a Ph.D. program with a focus on Public History is near completion, leveraging San Antonio’s unparalleled historical resources to create a truly distinctive doctoral experience.
