"Since graduating, I’ve continued teaching high school English, but thankfully, the master’s degree has given me the leverage to transition back into teaching History. Starting next year, as an adjunct faculty at St. Philip’s College, I’ll be my school’s first Dual Credit US History professor. Going through the master’s program while being a full-time teacher and part-time single dad meant that I couldn’t be as involved in the program as I would’ve liked to, but I feel like I made the most of the time I had. I showed up to campus early, stayed after class to talk to my professors about my research interests, and showed up to their office hours. I fell into a crew of classmates in the cohort, and we scheduled our classes together, complained (commiserated? haha) together, celebrated together, studied together, grieved together, and walked the stage together. I chose a History master’s program because I love historical research and thinking. Whether we’re recent undergrads, retirees, veterans, lawyers, civil engineers, teachers, full-time scholars, or [fill in your blank, here!], it seemed like the students who were thriving in the program were the ones who found research topics that excited them – that was certainly the case for me!" -Stephen Logan
