Enrollment is now open for the School of Music’s first-ever Tejano Ensemble course with Shelly Lares, Artist in Residence, and Professor Michael Acevedo!

This new course brings Tejano tradition, culture, and live performance into an academic setting while giving students the opportunity to earn course credit in a live band setting. Be part of a historic inaugural ensemble and perform music rooted in Texas culture and legacy. Tejano music is a genre born in South Texas that blends Mexican and American musical traditions, combining elements of conjunto, ranchera, pop, jazz, and R&B. Known for its danceable rhythms, strong melodies, and rich cultural history, Tejano music represents generations of musical storytelling and community expression.
