UTSA Orchestra at work in a performance.

UTSA Symphony Orchestra

M/W/F, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.

The UTSA Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra open to all UTSA students. Conducted by Asieh Mahyar, the orchestra performs landmarks of classical music and explores works by underrepresented composers. In recent years, the UTSA Symphony Orchestra’s repertoire included classics by Bach, Coleridge-Taylor, Elgar, Grieg, Holst, Liszt, Mozart, Schumann, Sibelius, and Telemann, as well as modern works by Bartók, Britten, Copland, Elizondo, Hailstork, Harberg, Hindemith, Mackey, Márquez, and Price. The orchestra regularly collaborates with UTSA choral ensembles to present major works such as Bach’s Magnificat and Handel’s Messiah. UTSA Music faculty periodically appear as soloists, as do winners of the annual UTSA Concerto and Aria Competition. Orchestra musicians also collaborate with the UTSA Lyric Theatre on opera and musical theatre productions.
