UTSA Wind Ensemble

M/W/F 2:00-3:25pm

The UTSA Wind Ensemble is comprised of UTSA Students who have achieved an extremely high level of musicianship and who perform some of the most challenging music composed for wind bands. Membership in this ensemble is open to all UTSA Students, regardless of Major, who audition at the beginning of each semester.

The UTSA Wind Ensemble has been under the direction of Dr. Robert Rustowicz since its inception in 1976 and maintains a vigorous performance schedule of 3 demanding concerts each semester as well as an ensemble tour when budgeting and schedule permits.

Auditioning for Concert Bands

For those interested in auditioning for concert bands (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, University Band) and orchestral winds, audition excerpts are located on the UTSA Bands website.

UTSA SYMPHONIC BAND

M/W/F 2:00-3:25pm

The UTSA Symphonic Band is made up of 55-60 outstanding wind players who perform a repertoire chosen from a variety of historical periods and for ensembles of various sizes. While the group occasionally presents pieces composed for smaller groups, much of its time is spent in the study and performance of works from the standard symphonic band repertoire.

Additionally, the UTSA Symphonic Band is active in commissioning world-renowned composers for premiers on the UTSA campus. Membership is open to all students at the university who audition at the beginning of each semester. As with every ensemble group at UTSA, professionalism in performance quality and attitude is always emphasized, as these crucial elements of musicianship will serve to benefit students as they enter the world as a performer, educator or other professional.

UTSA UNIVERSITY BAND

M/W/F 12:00-1:30pm

The UTSA University Band includes between 60-75 members and maintains an active 3-concert schedule each semester, performing a wide variety of works written for the concert band medium. Membership consists of both music majors and non-music majors. We invite all students interested in performing in this ensemble to come out and join us! The University Band is a NON-AUDITIONED ensemble and is open to any UTSA student.

The Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band (SOSA)

M/W/F 7:00-9:30pm and sectionals for percussion/auxiliaries starting at 6pm.

The “Spirit of San Antonio” is a 330-member marching band that will perform a standard pre-game show, 4-5 different halftime shows, play a vast variety of stand tunes, and maintain UTSA traditions, while at the same time promoting positive learning and social environment for its members. This ensemble is open to all university students regardless of major.
