To be admitted to the School of Art, students must apply through a separate portal after being accepted into UT San Antonio and receiving their ID. Students applying for either the B.A. or B.F.A. in Studio Art program will be required to include a digital portfolio consisting of 10-15 works and a creative statement.
Step 1:
You must begin your application to the University of Texas at San Antonio prior to applying for admission to a studio art program with the School of Art. Through this process, you will obtain your UTSA ID (abc123), which you will use to apply to the UTSA School of Art.

Step 2:
Submit your Portfolio and Creative Statement in PDF format to ApplyArt@utsa.edu. You MUST include your full name and myUTSA ID in your emailed submission.
Portfolio Requirements:
To be considered for the studio art programs, you must submit a PDF portfolio containing 10–15 works that demonstrate your experience across a variety of media. At least two of the submitted works must be created from direct observation. The remaining pieces may be selected at your discretion and should represent your strengths, interests, and creative development.
For each work, please include the title, medium, dimensions (H × W × D) and a brief description that provides context about your artistic process, inspiration, or conceptual approach.
Students working in time-based media (video, sound, performance) may include full urls to external video or audio works in each slide of the pdf.
Creative Statement:
Write a creative statement that tells us about the type of art you create and what inspires your work. Share what motivates you as an artist, including any personal experiences, ideas, or themes that influence your creative process. Please also describe your artistic journey so far, including any formal training, classes, workshops, or self-taught experiences that have helped shape your development as an artist, both in and outside of school.
Finally, consider sharing your goals and aspirations within the art world. Whether you hope to strengthen your skills, experiment with new mediums, or pursue a career in the arts, we would love to learn more about your vision for the future.
Your creative statement should be no longer than three paragraphs and submitted in PDF format.
