School of Art Gift Fund

  • Student travel for art experiences- Funding for student travel enables firsthand experiential learning, exposing students to transformative art experiences that broaden their worldview and foster a more dynamic and engaging educational environment.
  • Student emergency fund- In case of an emergency the School of Art will support students in any financial crisis. We are dedicated to maintaining a healthy and prosperous learning environment. Assisting students is our highest priority for the program. This fund will assist to cover the cost of daily expenses, materials, parking, and access to technology, among other unexpected expenses.
  • Scholarship awards for undergrads and grads- Awards recognize and support students’ academic excellence, creativity, and dedication by providing merit-based financial assistance that empowers them to engage fully in their studies and achieve their educational and professional goals. Scholarships may also be dedicated to students in underserved populations who may not have been able to shine as brightly due to their life circumstances.
  • Student-Run Galleries – Gift funds support students’ experiential learning as they both operate gallery spaces and display artwork at our UTSA Main and Southwest campuses.
  • Graduate Student Support- Every dollar donated to Graduate Student Funding provides essential support for emerging artists, enabling them to pursue innovative projects, acquire specialized materials, and participate in transformative opportunities such as residencies, exhibitions, and research endeavors.
  • Art History Lecture series and guest speakers - The Visiting Art Historian Lecture Series brings renowned scholars from around the globe to share their groundbreaking research and unique perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of art's influence across cultures and history.

Nicole Poole, recipient of the Haystack Mountain School of Craft Research Fellowship funded by Johnny Clay Johnson, had both the trajectory of her master’s thesis research in the history of art and her personal creative practice considerably altered in the best possible ways. The fellowship offered her uninterrupted time to experiment with new materials and techniques.
