The Music Education Program is the largest program within the School of Music and has enjoyed remarkable success in placing 100% of its graduates in public-school teaching positions upon graduation in recent years. The Music Education program at UTSA is a nationally accredited program leading to teacher certification in All-Level PK-12 Music.

The Music Education faculty is an outstanding group of scholars and teachers who regularly publish their research in leading journals and perform throughout the world. A low student to teacher ratio allows the faculty to carefully guide undergraduate students through the coursework leading toward teacher certification and develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be successful music teachers in public schools.

The Music Education Program, based in the seventh largest city in the United States, is situated to offer a wide variety of urban, suburban, and rural experiences working with a wide variety of teachers in some of the best band, choir, and orchestra programs in the state. For string players, the UTSA String Project is a nationally recognized program that offers undergraduate students the opportunity to learn the art of teaching on campus.

Music Education students are expected to and encouraged to perform at the very highest levels in solo and chamber recitals as well as with our large ensembles. A wide variety of performance opportunities exist with the school and in the surrounding communities.

In addition to academic and performance-based scholarships offered by UTSA and the School of Music, the Music Education Program offers special scholarships to undergraduates who intend to graduate and teach elementary music.
