Successful completion of an approved challenge exam, CLEP exam, AP exam, IB exam, or equivalent, at the fourth-semester level, in any language other than English, satisfies the Second Language Experience requirement. 

Challenge Exam: Students wishing to complete a challenge exam in any language not offered at UTSA may take an exam through AVANT assessment to determine their level. Students must show intermediate-mid proficiency to satisfy the requirement. Contact Dr. Robert Watson to schedule an exam.

AP Exam: Students scoring 3 or higher on an AP exam in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, or Spanish, have satisfied the requirement.

CLEP Exam: Students scoring 62 on a French CLEP Exam, 63 on a German CLEP Exam, 66 on a Spanish Language Exam, or 62 on a Spanish with Writing CLEP Exam, have satisfied the requirement.

IB Exam: Students scoring 5 on a Chinese Language B HL Exam, 6 on a French Language B HL Exam, 4 or higher on a German Language B HL Exam, 4 on an Italian B HL Exam, 5 on a Japanese B HL Exam, 4 on a Russian B HL Exam, or 4 on a Spanish Language B HL Exam, have satisfied the requirement.
