Welcome to the Department of Communication in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. We are the largest department in COLFA, with over 800 students and 25 full-time faculty. We specialize in Communication Studies with concentrations in Public Relations, Digital Communication and Health Communication at the undergraduate level.

We also have an expanding MA Program with over 40 active graduate students, with enrollments growing annually. Our graduate faculty specialize in a wide gamut of research areas such as:

  • Interpersonal/Small Group Communication
  • Intercultural/International Communication
  • Organizational Communication
  • Health Communication
  • Digital Communication

We house the nationally-ranked UTSA Debate Team, and the first National Advertising Competition (NSAC) Team at UTSA. Our students are involved with campus life through several other registered student organizations led by our passionate COM Faculty as their advisors including: PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society), AAF (American Advertising Federation), AWC (Association of Women in Communication), and Story-Tellers at UTSA.

UTSA professor explores spirituality as a way to fight climate change

Despite decades of public messaging about the effects of climate change, there continues to be a struggle with motivating action.
