Democracy requires active participation on the part of its citizens. The civic engagement project gives you a chance to engage with issues that you believe matter to you.
Since migration is one of our primary themes, students will work in teams to study issues that are relevant to immigration and democracy and then execute a project that makes a difference to our community. This year, we have successfully collaborated with the Center for Refugee Services to assist with the packaging and distribution of household goods to families who have been displaced in San Antonio.
Beginning the Wednesday after Labor Day, students will meet every 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings (with the exception of UTSA/HS breaks) to plan and discuss progress on their team’s project. These will be under the guidance of our mentors and staff from the UTSA Honors College.
This project will be an excellent leadership experience and will certainly shine on college applications.
