Show Statement from Trulei Versatile

Black in its purest form; this solo exhibition is the translation and transmutation of the Black experience of living in America. The artist Trulei Versatile is addressing the controversial topic of African American dysphoria mixed with conversational cultural stigmatisms and stereotypes that are placed on Black American people, specifically Black women. Using cultural colloquialisms as an avenue to connect the scattered dots of the Black American story, telling it from a multifaceted perspective. With each poem, film, portrait, and interactive work, Black Amine is an environment that is created to incite both retrospection and social awareness that transcends one's personal experience.
