RE:KONSTRIKSYON: Black and Brown Futures features work by artists who re-imagine current contexts and past histories of race and ethnicity to suggest diverse ways of thinking and being. RE:KONSTRIKSYON, [rē – kənˈ – STRIKH – seey(ə)n], deriving from Haitian Kreyol, is the action or process of something being rebuilt after being damaged or destroyed, or it may refer to something constructed based upon an impression, model, or re-enactment of a past event formed from available evidence. RE:KONSTRIKSYON serves to mirror the lives of the people of the global majority who simultaneously acknowledge the offerings and contributions of the past while continually laying new foundations. The exhibition includes figurative, abstract, and conceptual works in illustration, painting, digital photography, video, and sculpture. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Scott A. Sherer and Kirsten Thompson. Artists include Bernice Appelin-Williams, Rolando Briseño, Barbara”Bobbie” Bullock, Barbara Felix, John Jennings, Juliana Kasumu, Daniela Riojas, Stacey Robinson, Darian Thomas, and Naomi Wanjiku Gakunga.
