The Wunderkammer for Ontological Observation (WOO Lab) is a space for creative investigation designed around the idea of the Wunderkammer or cabinet of curiosities.
The term Wunderkammer refers to notable collections of objects and curiosa that emerged during the 16th century as the precursor to the natural history museum. These unique collections speak of a time when the methodologies of art and science were closer together, which frames our goal for the space – a studio/makerspace where art students can explore how scientific methodologies can inform their approach to art making, and where students of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can engage the wonder they feel for their research within the expressive/conceptual perspectives of contemporary art.
