Dr. Ali Atabey awarded Diana Kennedy Grant

Dr. Atabey is currently teaching a course on the History of Food and Foodways.  His course teaches students that all historical eras and world areas are marked by the need for food, the production of food, and the culture of food. Throughout the course, students will engage in detailed investigations of food and drink in history, with particular attention on how food choices and ideologies express social distinctions, collective values, and aspirations. The impact of food on social and political systems, cultural interactions, economic empires, human migrations, and warfare are other themes that have the potential to be explored.
