Assistant Professor of Instruction/Assistant Professor of Practice in Collaborative Piano

The School of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites applicants for a full-time, fixed-term track faculty member in collaborative Piano. collaborating with faculty, guest artists, and select students, accompanying choral and/or Lyric Theatre rehearsals, auditions and select other performances, teaching related coursework in the keyboard area, and coordinating accompanying services for the School of Music. Establish and maintain a strong profile as a collaborative pianist and positive presence in the university and wider community, and the region. Maintain a successful record of teaching and service as defined by the needs of the school. This position calls for a dynamic individual who is collegial, encouraging, and committed to a culture of continuous growth. 

Required Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in collaborative piano or piano performance with extensive collaborative performance experience.
  • A record of excellence in collaborative performances across a range of instrumental and vocal partnerships, as well as chamber music and large ensemble work.
  • Qualified candidates will possess strong communication and organizational skills. 
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in collaborative piano or piano performance, college-level teaching experience, and/or vocal coaching experience.
  • To be considered for Assistant Professor of Instruction, the candidate must hold the terminal degree.

Assistant Professor of Instruction/Assistant Professor of Practice in Music Education

The School of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites applicants for a full-time, fixed-term track position in wind/percussion music education. Responsibilities include teaching music education courses and participating in area meetings, committees, and other assigned service activities. Teaching assignments may include brass methods, music pedagogy, music curriculum/instruction, technology for music educators, and a graduate-level seminar in music education. 

Required Qualifications

  • Completed doctorate in music education or ABD.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in K-12 schools.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence teaching music education courses at the university level, including the subjects in which classes will be assigned. 
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized pedagogical content knowledge for teaching wind and percussion instruments in K-12 schools.
  • Background in “sound before sign” pedagogies for instrumental music learning.
  • Experience teaching graduate-level music education classes.
  • Teaching experience, goals, and approaches that meet the needs of students at varying levels of musical proficiency.

Lecturer in Bharatanatyam

The School of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites applicants for a part-time position in Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance). Responsibilities include teaching weekly classes and providing realistic assessments of student performance.

Required Qualifications

  • College graduate with baccalaureate or higher degree.
  • Graduated in Bharatanatyam (Arangetram certificate or plaque).
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching Bharatanatyam.
  • Internship certificate following the Arangetram, or experience in teaching with an established teacher in a Bharatanatyam School.
  • Letter from the school giving details of training.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in Carnatic music.
  • Resume describing experience in running a Bharatanatyam school, service on arts organization boards.

Lecturer in Cello

The School of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites applicants for a part-time position in cello. Responsibilities include teaching weekly individual lessons and a weekly studio class, providing realistic assessments of student performance, attending student juries and recitals, and participating in recruiting (which includes attendance at auditions for incoming students). 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in music or higher. 
  • Demonstrated record of excellence teaching cello individual instruction to music majors at the university level.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching cello repertoire and pedagogy classes at the university level. 
  • Teaching experience, goals, and approaches that support the UTSA academic community and meet the needs of students at varying levels of musical proficiency.
