The UTSA Department of Music values the contributions that are being made by our alumni. Many are employed by school districts in and around San Antonio, while others are moving through the paces of graduate school at the masters and doctoral level. Instrumental and choral ensembles directed by UTSA Music Alums have been featured at state and regional music conventions. Our graduates have achieved regional, national and international acclaim for their work in opera, instrumental performance and musical composition. Students in the Music Marking degree program have interned for symphony orchestras, record companies, radio stations, live music venues, opera companies, and church music programs - all of which have served as springboards to careers in this specialized field of artistic endeavor.
The Texas Music Educators Convention, held in San Antonio each February, presents an opportunity to connect with former students at the annual Alumni Reception. A significant part of our spring Extravaganza event consists of honoring alumni with a reception and slide show of everyone we have been able to locate. Each year an Outstanding Alum is chosen by members of the Department of Music faculty.
An additional effort to make contact with former students has been the development of a Facebook group called UTSA Music Alums.
Alumni of the UTSA Department of Music are encouraged to keep in touch by sending biographical information and photos.
