The nature of the relationship between women and madness adheres to the contestation of 'mental illness' as a forceful request for help, manifesting both a cultural and political castration. The result is a traditional male-centered orientation of feminists and an anti-feminine bias, subjecting women to a subordinate self through a hierarchical manner. In its negative meaning, the identity of the "other" is the absence of a masculine presence: deficiency and incompleteness. However, the conception of otherness is blind to a woman's actual difference, unknowing of the woman's assertion and reasoning that considers their unique experiences of anatomical changes and their historical suppression. –The Yellow Wallpaper. 2009.
