Ali Kanso El-Ghori

Bio

Ali Kanso is an internationally known public relations and integrated marketing communication expert. His teaching, research, and consulting areas focus on strategic planning studies in public relations/public affairs, global corporate communication, issues management, and advertising/marketing.

Kanso’s professional background includes work as a news reporter, assistant editor, community relations director, advertising copywriter, and management consultant. He is the author of more than 35 articles, essays, and reports. His articles have appeared in Journal of Advertising Research, International Journal of Advertising, International Journal of Commerce and Management, Journal of Promotion Management, Journal of Global Competitiveness, Business Research Yearbook, Ecquid Novi, Asia Pacific Public Relations Journal, Journal of Marketing Communications, Journal of Hospitality and Leisure Marketing and other publications. He has presented over 40 refereed papers at national and international conferences in the last decade. He also regularly reviews research papers and books for various associations and publishing companies.

Kanso is widely traveled in the Middle East, Europe, the U.S., and elsewhere, including recent opportunities in four Asian countries to personally interview executives from leading multinational companies and consulting firms such as Procter and Gamble, Pepsi-Cola, Thai Airways, Citibank, Price Waterhouse, Leo Burnett, and others. In addition, in 1999 he was competitively selected to participate in the Advertising Educational Foundation’s Visiting Professor Program at McCann-Erickson Worldwide in New York City, where he gained first-hand experience in advertising management, creative strategies and client servicing of major brands.

He has received a number of professional invitations recognizing his educational leadership, including all-expense paid opportunities to participate at conferences and seminars sponsored by the Direct Marketing Association, Yellow Pages Integrated Media Association, Promotional Products Association International, and Direct Marketing Educational Foundation.

Kanso is a member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the American Marketing Association (AMA), the American Academy of Advertising (AAA), Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), International Academy of Business Disciplines (IABD), the American Society for Competitiveness (ASC), and other organizations. He is also active in organizing faculty and student research symposia and moderating refereed paper sessions at national conferences.

He serves on the editorial boards of the refereed Journal of Promotion Management, a publication of Haworth Press, Inc. through its Best Business Books imprint, the EuroMed Journal of Business and Journal of Global Competitiveness. Kanso previously taught at Tennessee State University, Slippery Rock University, Kansas State University, and Emerson College. Kanso also worked as a correspondent and an assistant editor at the leading Lebanese daily newspaper An-Nahar ("The Day") for five years.
