Students from the University of Texas at San Antonio's Live Production class got a behind-the-scenes look at the stage production for Justin Timberlake’s “The Forget Tomorrow Tour" at the Moody Center in Austin.

The first concert Amber Montanez ever attended also happened to be a class assignment.

In early February, Montanez and 15 classmates from her Live Production class at the University of Texas at San Antonio caravanned to the Moody Center in Austin for Justin Timberlake’s “The Forget Tomorrow" tour.

The trip was set up by their instructor, UTSA assistant professor of practice Jerod Jerry, and the purpose wasn't just to watch Timberlake perform.

Before the pop star took the stage, the show’s tour manager, Dan McGee, gave the class members a behind-the-scenes look of the concert and let them ask questions of the stage crew.

Montanez, 20, learned the show preparation was more than setting up and breaking down equipment.  She learned how audio, lighting and visual teams worked as one unit to bring everything together. She learned that the technicians toiled long hours before and after the event. And she was moved by what she saw taped to monitor boards and equipment — photos of crew members families they missed while away on months-long tours.
