MA student Farrin Moreno was featured as a Parent Voice Contributor in Comprehensive Neonatal Nursing Care (6th Edition), which won 2nd place in the 2020 American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Awards in the Maternal-Child Health/Prenatal Nursing/Childbirth category. Farrin emphasizes how communication plays a critical role in the experience of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) parents. In the narrative, she reflects on her own time in the NICU as the parent of a micro preemie daughter who was born at 25 weeks gestation with a congenital heart defect. Farrin advocates that healthcare professionals use communication to lessen, not intensify, the trauma suffered by NICU parents such as herself.
