Biography

Sealia Montalvo is currently a junior studying Public Administration and minoring in Civic Engagement at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is a native San Antonian who has been involved in the art scene from a young age, with notable experiences at Blue Star Contemporary, the Smithsonian Latino Center’s Young Ambassador Program, and the Mellon Summer Academy at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Her colorful work as an artist explores themes of nostalgia and identity. She has come full circle in her arts career as curator and co-founder of MOTHERLING, a DIY pop-up collective dedicated to presenting contemporary art in a familiar format. Montalvo’s motivation in her research is centered around public art and it’s transformative effects on surrounding communities.
