Decolonization of archaeology through digital methods.
Projects
My research will ultimately culminate in a journey to Peru with Dr. Bria in the UTSA Anthropology department to the site of Hualcayan, Peru, where we will use geospatial analysis and 3D modelling to investigate ancient Andean mortuary architecture from the Middle Horizon (AD 600-1000). Additionally, this work will be disseminated through the contemporary Hualcayan community through community engagement techniques; this final step in engaging the community is my effort to bring the scope of the archaeological research beyond uncovering the past, but also considers how my digital analyses can be used to engage modern descendent communities in the region to empower them, and help rekindle a connection they have to the archaeology of their region that has been broken through the process of colonialism.
