Biography

Kennedy Bustos is a senior at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She grew up in the suburbs outside Houston, Texas, and currently resides in a small town outside of San Antonio, Texas. She will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a Professional Writing concentration in Spring 2022 after participating in UTSA’s “COLFA Semester in Urbino” study abroad program in Italy.

Kennedy is a proud advocate for student journalism. She began her journey at The Paisano—an independent student news publication serving the UTSA community—in Spring 2021 as Marketing Manager. From Summer to Fall 2021, Kennedy is ecstatic to serve as the Managing Editor of The Paisano. Since becoming a student journalist, Kennedy has built a deeper confidence in herself, a deeper connection to the UTSA community, and a deeper appreciation for the inherent power of writing.

Nominated by the Dept. English Chair, Kennedy is honored to serve on UTSA’s first-ever COLFA Dean’s Student Advisory Council. This council serves as a coalition supporting the Dean of COLFA, serving a vital role in linking the college’s strategic objectives and activities with the interests of external partners, non-profit organizations, and industry groups.

After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, Kennedy will continue her educational journey by obtaining a doctoral degree in English Literature. In doing so, she can one day teach literature at the university level: mentoring the next generation of students, compassing their educational journey, and striving to continue the legacy of the professors who have inspired her along her path.

As a full-time university student, a majority of her time is monopolized by schoolwork. However, when Kennedy is blessed with free time, she enjoys diving into her passions. One of her greatest passions is reading; just like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, she is often found with a “dreamy far-off look, and her head stuck in a book.” In addition, Kennedy finds insurmountable joy in steaming cups of French-pressed coffee, and creative fulfillment in plant-based cooking. Kennedy yearns to see as much of the world as she can, and is always planning her next adventure.
