Biography

Matthew is a second-year junior attending the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is double majoring in Global Affairs and Philosophy while minoring in Intelligence Security Studies. Since Matthew was little, he has had a passion for history and politics and their undeniable interconnected relationship and encourages those to observe this relationship through the analysis of history and how it shapes the future of politics. Matthew was born in Moca, Puerto Rico, and grew up in Aguadilla, P.R. during his early childhood until his family started to move around the United States for a few years with them finally settling in Houston, Texas. Matthew hopes to first acquire a master’s degree in social work to serve in the Airforce as a social worker, while also wanting to pursue a master’s in international relations with hopes to work as a foreign service officer in the state department. Matthew sees himself traveling the world for his future profession, doing the work he loves while learning new things along the way. Matthew aims to learn at least 2 more languages in his lifetime, that being French and Japanese, while refining his already learned Spanish so he can utilize it for professional circumstances. In his free time, Matthew loves to rock climb, drink boba tea, go on bike rides, hike, go on walks or runs, play videogames, read coming-of-age-novels, play the guitar, write poetry and fiction, and hang out with friends. Thanks to the overwhelming support of Matthew’s cherished friends, family, professors, and mentors, Matthew has been able to continue to pursue his dreams throughout his academic career and embodies that support received in his everyday being. When Matthew retires, he hopes to settle down with his future family and open up his own boba tea shop while teaching Political Philosophy at the university level at either the University of Hawaii Manoa, University of Toronto, or the University of Barcelona. There is an exciting future that awaits, and Matthew is ready to meet the challenges completely to further his goals and to accomplish his dreams while supporting his colleagues, professors, family, mentors, and friends along the way.
