Professor, Communication
Teaching is a vocation to which I feel called. Teaching provides me with an opportunity to share with others the wonder of discovery about human interaction. Thus, what I learn through scholarship and self-discovery I express so that others may gain insight into their own experience.
I desire to apply myself as an excellent educator in the discipline of human communication through continual andragogical, curricular, and scholarly development. The role of the communication instructor is to guide students to discovery of self and other through expression. My goals for teaching involve: (a) meeting the needs of students for knowledge of communication principles, (b) assisting students in the development of communication skills, (c) guiding students in the development, maintenance, and negotiation of relationships through communication, and (d) providing the tools for students to critically assess and analyze human communication. To assist in meeting those goals, I intend to continue development of online and distributed course materials. However, effective teaching must begin with scholarship: continued education in the discipline of communication through research is a prerequisite to instruction.
I recently completed a course in Effective Online College Instruction by the Association of College and University Educators.
