Md Shamsad Khan

Bio

Dr. Khan received his B.A. and Master’s degrees from universities in India and Ph.D. in Communication from Simon Fraser University in Canada, with a focus on global public health and communication. His doctoral research was followed by post-doctoral fellowship at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Simon Fraser University, and at the Centre for Global Public Health, University of Manitoba, Canada. Dr. Khan’s research is grounded in community-based health intervention and communication with a special focus on HIV/AIDS and marginalized communities. He has been involved with several externally funded global health research projects, working with scholars from India, Kenya, China and Canada. His other research and teaching interests are focused on medical pluralism, social determinants of health and health equity, critical public health theory, social history of disease and medicine, communication and development, and applied communication for social issues. Dr. Khan has published in leading academic journals, such as Social Science and Medicine, Health Communication, Global Public Health, Culture, Health and Sexuality, Critical Public Health, and PLOS ONE. He has also published book chapters and is currently working on his book project focused on HIV/AIDS, Public Health and the Indian State. Besides, he has presented refereed papers at numerous national and international conferences.
