Bio

Chantel Gallegos Nasits is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Film and Media at the University of Texas at San Antonio. With 24 years of professional experience in film, television, commercial, and branded content production, she brings active industry practice directly into the classroom. She is the owner and executive producer of Horsedog Productions and has received multiple ADDY Awards along with Emmy recognition for her work in visual storytelling and production leadership.

Professor Nasits integrates hands-on production methodology with professional workflow standards, emphasizing real-world application, collaboration, and industry readiness. In Summer 2025, she restructured and condensed the advanced production course (FILM 3333) into an intensive five-week format in which students successfully produced both a narrative short film and a 30-second commercial. That same term, she line produced a UTSA and UT Health Systems brand spot, incorporating her students into the live production environment as on-set observers and background performers, providing direct exposure to professional set operations, union protocols, and commercial production workflows.

In Fall 2025, she co-hosted and helped develop Fixing the Set, a hands-on production design workshop that brought together 34 Film and Media students to build and execute an Art Department experience led in collaboration with a professional Production Designer. She also serves as Faculty Advisor for Avé Magazine, supporting student-led editorial and visual media initiatives. Professor Nasits was invited to serve as a University Recovery speaker in December 2025, further reflecting her commitment to mentorship and student advocacy.

Her mentorship extends beyond the classroom. She provides individualized guidance to emerging creatives, including photography mentorship, and regularly leverages her industry network to create on-set employment and experiential learning opportunities for UTSA students. She has advised student production teams on pitching, budgeting, and structuring for-profit media projects, contributing to successful funding outcomes.

Professor Nasits’ teaching philosophy centers on professional accountability, production literacy, and workforce integration, ensuring students graduate not only with creative skill sets but with the practical competencies required to enter and sustain careers in the evolving media industry.
