A student whose grade point average in courses taken at UTSA is at least 3.0, whose grade point average in upper-division courses in one of the fields offered as a major in the department is at least 3.5, and who completed 18 semester credit hours at the upper-division level in the major (24 hours for Spanish) may petition the undergraduate faculty advisor to enroll them in the appropriate honors course (FRN 4993, GER 4993, or SPN 4993 Honors Research).

If the student maintains the minimum grade point averages upon completion of the course, the Department Honors Committee will evaluate the project the student completed in the honors course and determine whether they will be awarded Department Honors.
