Bio

My name is Sarah Ball. I am originally from Northern California, but I have been in San Antonio long enough to call it home. I have a Bachelor's degree in History, and I earned my Master's degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio in American History with a focus on the U.S. Civil War. Although I am fascinated by nearly all aspects of the Antebellum and Civil War period, my primary research area is California during the Civil War years, specifically the construction of American Nationalism (the concept of "national" citizenship) in the West during this crucial period in American history. Aside from researching and teaching... I love food, art, travel, spending time with my family, and of course... HISTORY! What I love most about history is that it allows us the opportunity to gain valuable perspectives. By thinking critically about the past, we can better understand the issues in our present society and can make more informed decisions about our future.
