The Alameda/UTSA Endowed Museum Internship

  • Award: Amount and number of awards vary depending on endowment distributions

    This internship award shall be provided to a full-time or part-time GRADUATE student enrolled in a graduate program in Anthropology, Art History or History.

    Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used each year to fund an internship at the:

    •  Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.

    •  UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures

    •  Kennedy Center

    •  or other cultural institutions as deemed appropriate by the Dean of College of Liberal and Fine Arts

    The internship award shall be provided to a full-time or part-time graduate student enrolled in a graduate program in Anthropology, Art History or History.

    Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 20 credit hours toward their master's degree.  In consultation with the graduate advisers of record, applicants are responsible for making internship arrangements.

    Amount of award varies depending on funds available. Past awards have been approximately $1,000, and are awarded just prior to the start of the internship.

    • Essay - a 500-word narrative proposing the organization where they expect to complete their internship. The narrative should explain how the internship experience fits into their academic development and area of study, and what they hope to gain from the experience.

David Bowen Memorial Endowment For Study In Europe - Spring 2018

    • Undergraduate

    • Travel experience must be at least two weeks in duration

Dwight F. Henderson Endowed Scholarship In History

  • Award: Amount and number of awards vary depending on endowment distributions. Up to $650.00

  • Eligibility

    1. Be an undergraduate student pursuing a History BA Degree at UTSA

    2. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0

    3. Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours

    Submit an essay (max 250 words) on how the scholarship will impact your life as a History student at UTSA, email address, and phone number before April 1st, 2022. Please indicate if you are currently receiving any other scholarship for your studies at UTSA.

Ernest And Aimee Bromley Endowed Presidential Scholarship In The Liberal Arts

  • Award: Amount and number of awards vary depending on endowment distributions

  • Eligibility

    • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared a major in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts

    • Recipient must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours and actively pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts in the College. An exception to full-time enrollment may be granted by the Dean on a case-by-case basis when the student is not required to take a full course load to graduate, provided the student is enrolled in a minimum of six credits hours.

    • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

    **Art and Art History and Music majors are not eligible for this scholarship**

Hewitt Family Annual Scholarship in COLFA

  • Award: $1,000

  • Eligibility

    • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared major in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts

    • Must be enrolled full-time status (minimum of 12 semester credit hours for undergraduates and 6 semester credit hours for graduate students)

    • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

    • Recipients must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours and must demonstrate leadership capabilities in their school and community through volunteer efforts

Kenneth Alan Hovey Endowed Memorial Scholarship

    • Major in Humanities, Philosophy & Classics, or English

    • Enrolled full-time (12 hours undergraduate and 9 hours graduate)
    • 3.0 GPA (undergraduate) and 3.5 GPA (graduate)

Nau Graduate Research Assistantship in History

  • Award: Up to five Graduate Research Assistants will be selected and will receive up to $18,000 each. Eligible for in-state tuition rates.

  • Eligibility

    The Nau Research Assistantship is open to students enrolled in the UTSA History M.A. Program (2022-2023).

     

    • The student must be enrolled in the UTSA History Graduate Program and actively pursuing an M.A. graduate degree in the Department of History at the University.
    • Must be in good academic standing with the University and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a scale of 4.0.
    • Two Letters of Recommendation (strongly recommended that letters come from UTSA History professors).
    • Complete essay prompt on why you want to serve as a Research Assistant in a classroom.
    • Written Impact Statement: 200 words max.
    • All Nau Fellows will be required to present at the Annual Nau History Scholars Symposium.
  • Application Requirements

    • Why do you want to serve as a Research Assistant in a classroom? Please share how your interest in history is framed by a desire to teach history.
    • Impact Statement: How would receiving a John Nau Award encourage your study of history and ability to do historical research? Factors may include preparing to teach history, reducing hours at place of employment to have more time to devote to history, an interest in studying history beyond the (BA/MA), being a student Ambassador for the History Department, etc. (200 words max)
    • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a History department faculty member).

Nau Graduate Research Award in History (Year 1)

  • Award: Up to 5 students will be selected and will receive awards up to $15,000 each for the academic year 2022-2023. Recipients will also be eligible for in-state tuition.

  • Eligibility

    The Nau Graduate Fellowship is open to prospective History M.A. students who have started the UTSA application process and to newly admitted graduate students enrolled in the History M.A. Program.

     

    1. The student must be enrolled in the UTSA History Graduate Program and actively pursuing an UTSA M.A. degree.

    2. Fellows must be in good academic standing and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a scale of 4.0.

    3. Applicants must complete a fellowship application through UTSA and include any supplemental information required.

    4. 2 Letters of Recommendation (at least one from an Undergraduate History faculty preferred).

    5. Essay *_OR_ *writing sample.

    6. Written Impact Statement

    7. All Nau Fellows will be required to present at the Annual Nau History Scholars Symposium.

  • Application Requirements

    • In 400-600 words, please tell us about a book or author whose research has shaped your thoughts of history and historical research. How has this historian influenced your thoughts on becoming an historical scholar?
    • Share a writing sample (up to 10 pages) that highlights your research in history and your use of primary sources to conduct historical research. Please use Chicago-Style footnotes.
    • Impact Statement: How would receiving a John Nau Award encourage your study of history and ability to do historical research? Factors may include preparing to teach history, reducing hours at place of employment to have more time to devote to history, an interest in studying history beyond the (BA/MA), being a student Ambassador for the History Department, etc. (200 words max)

Nau Undergraduate Research Award in History

  • Award: Up to 6 students will be selected as Nau Scholars to receive awards of up to $10,000 each for the upcoming academic year. Recipients will also be eligible for in-state tuition.

  • Eligibility

    • Open to current UTSA undergraduate History majors.
    • Must be in good academic standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a scale of 4.0.
    • At least junior standing (60 hours)
    • Two letters of recommendation which comment on historical skills and interests. (UTSA strongly recommends that you ask your college professors for recommendations when possible, esp. recommendations written by history professors.)
    • Must complete an essay prompt.
    • Must complete an impact essay prompt.
  • Application Requirements

    • In 400-600 words, please tell us about a book of history or historically-trained author whose research shaped your thoughts or encouraged you to study history and conduct historical research. What kinds of questions does this scholar ask? How has this historian influenced your own thoughts on becoming an historical scholar?

  • Eligibility

    The student must be enrolled in the UTSA History Graduate Program and actively pursuing an M.A. graduate degree in the Department of History at the University.
