POSITION: The Department of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio seeks qualified applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Violin. Primary teaching responsibilities involve undergraduate and graduate private studio instruction, teaching string pedagogy and string literature courses for string performance majors, and coaching chamber music. Additional responsibilities include research/creative activities appropriate to the position, and service as coordinator of the applied string area.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications are an earned doctorate in music, a record of successful college-level teaching experience as a string faculty member or graduate teaching assistant, and evidence of successful creative activity. Candidates should demonstrate a high level of artistic excellence and the potential to garner national and/or international attention as a performing artist and/or string pedagogue. The successful candidate must also demonstrate their ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations and support the University’s commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success. Applicants who are selected for interviews must be able to show proof that they will be eligible and qualified to work in the United States by the time of hire. The appointment will be effective Fall 2020; therefore, candidates who will complete a doctorate by August 2020 will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications are evidence of the ability to recruit and maintain a successful violin studio, and experience performing with and coaching chamber ensembles. We also seek candidates who can demonstrate the potential for innovative research and creative activities that reach across disciplines.
