Graduate Student Funding

There are many funding opportunities for COLFA graduate students.  COLFA’s departments and the college offer a wide variety of scholarships to eligible continuing students.  The eligibility for each scholarship varies, and interested students are encouraged to browse the opportunities in the Scholarship Hub.  All programs also offer Peter T. Flawn Graduate Research Endowed Scholarships to the highest ranked new students.

Each of the college’s Master’s program has a limited number of competitive fellowships to offer to incoming and continuing students.  As part of the fellowship, the awardee works alongside a faculty member as a teaching or research assistant.  The stipend for most of these fellowships is $4800 or $9600 per year (the two long semesters), depending upon the amount of work required each week.  Awardees who are not Texas residents are eligible to pay in-state tuition rates while they are on fellowship.

COLFA’s PhD programs offer competitive fellowship packages to the top applicants each year.  As with the Master’s fellowships, the recipients serve as teaching or research assistants for the term of the fellowship, usually 4 or 5 years.  PhD Fellowships provide a stipend of $18,000, remission of tuition and fees, and health insurance
