Research Interests

Transnationalism is a continuum through which immigrants navigate; a continuum that continuously maneuvers from the country of origin and the place of settlement. This continuous action incorporates the immigrants familial, social, cultural and political ties that encompass their previous and the immigrants new life experiences. Moreover, survival strategies employed by transnational families exemplify successful negotiations that can be viewed as assets and alternative forms of community building. I am interested in exploring the relationship of these transnational processes as they relate to the settlement process and to the individuals identity. I feel that the intersection of these three concepts may illuminate that today's transnational Border processes serve as a challenge to traditional models of immigrant incorporation and assimilation.
