SGSA Community Outreach: End Homlessness in Schools
Devoted Sociology Students,
The purpose of this community outreach is to help alleviate the increasing homelessness in San Antonio and the effect it's having on the school districts. There was a recent article in the San Antonio Express News that stated how school districts are noticing an increase in the number of homeless students. The SGSA has decided to do its part to solve this problem.
There are two easy ways you can help. First, there will be an underwear and socks drive (all sizes) in the Department of Sociology Office located on the 4th floor of the MS Building at Rm# 4.02.66. A box will be placed in the room and at anytime, anyone is welcome to drop by and leave their donation. The other way to help is through monetary donations. This can be done by giving any cash amount or making a check payable to SAISD Transitions Program and given to any SGSA officer.
The SGSA has decided to keep this community outreach ongoing past the holidays and onto next year. We are determined to do our best to help with this problem and hope that everyone can contribute in anyway they can. Below is the link to the article and the list of the SGSA officers. Thank you. http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/education/Number_of_homeless_students_soaring.html Coordinating team for the 2009/2010 school year:
