The UTSA Department of Sociology would like to congratulate Ms. Andréa Ruiz, a 2013 graduate of the UTSA Sociology Master’s Program and current Ph.D. candidate  Penn State University, for successfully defending her dissertation proposal.

The 3MT Competition started on Tuesday, March 22, with over 50 Master’s and Doctoral students competing in the preliminary round to earn a top spot in the Finals competition.

3MT® (Three Minute Thesis) is a competition providing graduate students the opportunity to showcase their research… in 3 minutes or less!

The Department of Sociology congratulates our very own David Ray for winning 2nd place in a very competitive field of submissions for his paper “Survivalist, Zombies, and Anticipatory Traumatic Stress.” David was awarded a $750 scholarship for his participation and for a 2nd place win.

Dr. Harriett Romo, Carma S Deem, Briana R Hamlyn, Allison E Christopher, and Jose L Debora were inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious all-discipline honor society.

Graduate students Hector Chapa, Carma Deem, David Ray, Thomas R. Moore, and Courtney K. Barrie presented their original research at the COLFA Spring Research Conference.

Undergraduates Olivia Osband and Robert Zubiate, and graduates Carma Deem and Andrea Ruiz were recognized as the Who's Who of UTSA and American Colleges and Universities!
