PhD Typical Timeline

The Doctoral program is designed to be completed in three years for full time students who are admitted with no conditions. Students who are required to complete additional Master’s level courses and/or a thesis-equivalent research project or who attend part time are expected to take more than three years to complete the program. Most students will take courses and perform research on a timeline like the following:

 

Year 1, Fall (9 hours total)
PSY 7003 Multivariate Statistics (3 hours)
PSY 7023 Military Health Psychology (3 hours)
One Advanced Topics Course (PSY 7103, 7113, 7123, 7133, or 7143)
      OR elective (3 hours)

Year 1, Spring (9 hours total)
PSY 7013 Advanced Research Design (3 hours)
PSY 6513 Psychology Research Internship (3 hours)
One Advanced Topics Course (PSY 7103, 7113, 7123, 7133, or 7143)
      OR elective (3 hours)

Year 1, Summer (3 hours total)
PSY 7913 Doctoral Research

Year 2, Fall (9 hours total)
Two Advanced Topics Courses (PSY 7103, 7133, 7123, 7133, or 7143)
      OR one Advanced Topics and one elective (6 hours)
PSY 7913 Doctoral Research
Complete Qualifying exams and Propose Dissertation

Year 2, Spring (9 hours total)
