BA Support Work

The purpose of the 12-hour support work requirement is to ensure that students take a group of courses outside the major that augment their studies within Psychology.  The courses that make up the 12 hours of support work should have some thematic relationship to each other and are not intended to be a random collection of electives.  [NOTE:  Courses that meet Core requirements cannot also be used to meet support work requirements.]

Students may meet the support work requirement in a variety of ways:

  • Students who are completing a double major or a minor automatically meet the support work requirement with the second major or the minor.
  • Students who intend to apply to a health professions program may use the science requirements from that program as their support work.
  • Students may take 4 courses in any single discipline, 2 of which must be upper division, as their support work.
             * IF LOWER DIVISION COURSES ARE CHOSEN, STUDENTS MUST ADJUST FREE ELECTIVES IN ORDER TO
COMPLETE MINIMUM 39 HOURS UPPER DIVISION CREDIT FOR GRADUATION
  • In consultation with an advisor, students can choose to prepare their own list of 12 hours of support work. The courses that make up the 12 hours must bear a thematic relationship to one another that can be defined by a label.  Students who choose this option must submit a petition for approval through the COLFA Advising Office.  Final approval is determined by the department.

It is the student's responsibility to acquire a current listing of support work from their Academic Advisor in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts Advising Center (MS 4.01.50).
