Taylor Helmcamp is a Global Affairs major. She is the founder of Treat for Troops McAllen, a non-profit organization that works with the American Legion Auxiliary to send care packages to active-duty troops around the world. She was the 2017 Alamo Model United Nations Conference Best Delegate in the Human Rights Council. Taylor is well versed in five different languages including Spanish and Russian. She is a member of the Russian club, as well as the Treasurer for UTSA Young Americans for Freedom. Taylor is currently working on a local campaign for a State Representative. She plans to pursue and international law degree as well as continue her language studies. She hopes to one day be a candidate for political office.
Ileen Jade Montemayor is a Politics and Law major with a concentration in Law and Governmental affairs. She is also pursuing a minor in Civic engagement and Sociology. Ileen in is her first year at UTSA, but is a classified as a senior due to dual enrollment and AP credits. She has been accepted to Harvard’s 2018 Public Policy and Leadership conference. She is a certified IRS income tax preparer for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), where she prepares taxes, free for low-income families. Ileen is passionate about immigration and volunteers with RAICES (Refugee and immigrant center for education and legal services). She volunteers for Students United for Planned Parenthood and the Hunger and Homelessness Movement. Ileen is a member of UTSA’s Jiu Jitsu club. In the future, Ileen plans to become a lawyer and one day open her own law firm. Her goals are to influence law and policy around immigration, taxes, and civil rights.
Dr. Nazgol Bagheri joined the Department of Political Science and Geography in the fall of 2013 as an Assistant Professor and Director of the GIS Lab. Her research focuses on urban and feminist geography, GIScience, and the Middle East. Recently she has been nominated for the President’s Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence at UTSA and was the recipient of UTSA’s institutional seed grant for teaching a GIS workshop to faculty in the summer of 2015 and 2016. Dr. Bagheri was also selected as the keynote speaker for the Texas Natural Resources Information Center GIS Forum in the summer of 2016 and was featured as a GeoMentor by ESRI. As the Graduate Program Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Geography she also provides mentorship and advising to several graduate students and teaches several graduate and undergraduate courses at UTSA.
