Alfredo Hickman

Alum Profile

Alfredo Hickman, is a former Marine, business and defense-oriented security-professional, engineer, and entrepreneur. Alfredo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UTSA in 2015. As an undergraduate student, Alfredo was the first to complete the signature experience program which consisted of an Internship, Honor’s Thesis, and Research Practicum. Alfredo was also selected for the Bill Archer Fellowship in 2015, during which he worked as a technology and security policy researcher at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. Upon his return, Alfredo has resumed working in the cybersecurity field. Alfredo currently works at Rackspace, where he is a senior engineer helping to build Rackspace’s managed cybersecurity business.

La’Shelbee Boyd

Student Profile

A native of San Antonio, La’Shelbee Boyd is a sophomore pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science at UTSA. La’Shelbee was invited to participate in the Public Policy and Leadership Conference, hosted by Harvard Kennedy School. This conference is designed to inspire and motivate first and second year undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds to pursue graduate education and to prepare for careers in public service. Previously La’Shelbee has also been a part of the Model United Nations at UTSA and the New Leadership Texas program. La’Shelbee attributes her achievements and desire for public service to her deeply held religious beliefs and values. Upon graduation, La’Shelbee plans to become a legislator and an educator.

Nazgol Bagheri, PhD

Faculty Profile

Dr. Nazgol Bagheri joined the Department of Political Science and Geography in the fall of 2013 as an Assistant Professor and Director of the GIS Lab. Her research focuses on urban and feminist geography, GIScience, and the Middle East. Recently she has been nominated for the President’s Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence at UTSA and was the recipient of UTSA’s institutional seed grant for teaching a GIS workshop to faculty in the summer of 2015 and 2016. Dr. Bagheri was also selected as the keynote speaker for the Texas Natural Resources Information Center GIS Forum in the summer of 2016 and was featured as a GeoMentor by ESRI. As the Graduate Program Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Geography she also provides mentorship and advising to several graduate students and teaches several graduate and undergraduate courses at UTSA.
