Recent Alumnus Selected for Japan’s JET Program

Eric Ysasi, a recent UTSA Foreign Language graduate, has been selected by the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) to spend one to five years in Japan where he will teach english and participate in other educational and instructional activities.  The JET program, which begain in 1987, brings about 4000 language teachers from all over the world to Japan each year and the selection process is highly competitive.  

Ysasi will work alongside of Japanese instructor to teach english to school children in various grades similar to K-12 in the U.S.  He hopes to be placed in the city of Otaru in northern Japan.

A language aficionado, Ysasi graduated last December and studied under Dr. Makiko Fukado,  senior lecturer of Japanese in the UTSA Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
