UTSA COLFA “Classrooms to Careers” Lecture Series: Ian Cruz

April 20, 2022

On April 14, Ian Cruz, gave an informative presentation to the Japanese Program about his journey from college to his current position as the Community Outreach and Media Manager with the KLRN (a local PBS station). After graduating from UTSA in 2009, Cruz joined the JET Program in Japan teaching English for three years before returning to US. The global experience prepared him for his next position as Senior International Specialist with the city office’s International Affairs Department. Post college graduation and after returning to the US, Cruz also volunteered at several local non-profit organizations. He encouraged students to expand their network and volunteer to gain first-hand experience which might become the steppingstones to one’s future career path. In addition, Cruz also encouraged students to never give up, be optimistic and flexible. “There is no such a thing called soft majors. You just must find your passion and niche creatively,” said Cruz. This lecture was sponsored by COLFA Center for Student Excellence.
