Romero selected for Graduate Scholarship

July 26, 2013

Elsa Romero was recently awarded a $1000 graduate scholarship for the Summer 2013 term from the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

Romero graduated with a double major degree in Spanish and TESOL, and when she moved to San Antonio in 2009 she was hired to be the Director of an ESL program at a private university. In order to also teach Spanish courses, Romero needs a Masters degree so she applied to the Spanish graduate program at UTSA for the 2011 Fall semester and is expected to graduate this December with an MA in Spanish.

Romero is taking Mexican Film with Dr. NancyMembrez this summer coupled with The Fantastic and Marvelous in Latin America with Dr. Malgorzata Oleszkiewicz.  During the Spring and Summer terms she worked as a Graduate Research Assist with Oleszkiewicz.

Romero has described her experiences thus far in the Masters Spanish program as wonderful noting that everybody is so helpful at the Modern Languages Department.

"I have enjoyed and learned a lot in every course I have taken at UTSA. I can only encourage and recommend to anybody who is thinking about pursuing a Master’s in Spanish, to come to UTSA.”

Congratulations to Elsa Romero and good luck in your future endeavors at UTSA and beyond!
