The Society for the Study of Gloria Anzaldúa (SSGA) is pleased to announce the second international conference on the work of Chicana feminist Gloria Anzaldúa. Held every 18 months, the SSGA conference is scheduled for November 4-6 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. The 2010 conference theme is Art and Performance.
El Mundo Zurdo seeks to provide a place for scholars, students, and community to come together with the intention of engaging in the continued study of Anzaldúa's intellectual and spiritual work.
Call For Visual Art
When asked about her art, Gloria stated, “Why am I compelled to write? Because the writing saves me from this complacency I fear. Because I have no choice.”
We are seeking your submission of artwork that connect the world of Gloria Anzaldúa and embraces the thoughts and questions that she opened up for us during her lifetime. If chosen, your artwork will be used in all material pertaining to El Mundo Zurdo 2010, such as the program cover, t-shirt image, poster image, proceedings book cover, etc.
The committee welcomes work that explores the following suggested concepts of Anzaldúa's life and work.
Borderlands, Queer Identity, Sexuality, Education, International and Transfrontera Experience, Spirituality, Art, Literature, Border Crossing, Meztizaje, Nepantla, Mita’ y Mita’, Spiritual and Physical Wellness, The Geo-Physical Border, “Being a bridge.”
We are looking for artwork that is politically charged, aesthetically innovative, and that addresses one or more of the above-mentioned topics.
There are no fees for entries and no monetary payment for use of the image. The SSGA committee will jury selections and notify as specified below. If the artwork is selected, artist must allow rights for reproduction for educational purposes by the SSGA, without restrictions.

Committee members will jury the submissions on/before Tuesday, August 31st and you will be notified of your acceptance, via email or by phone by Friday, Sept. 3, 2010.
