Phi Sigma Tau is an international honor society whose central
office is at Marquette University. Texas Kappa is the local chapter of Phi Sigma Tau
at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
The criteria for undergraduate membership in the philosophy honor society
are listed below. Any student who meets the criteria, whether or not he
is a philosophy major, can become a member of the honor society.
Phi Sigma Tau affords each member the opportunity to submit papers
for publication in the philosophical journal, Dialogue. The journal is dedicated
exclusively to the publication of undergraduate and graduate papers from
across the nation. If, however, you would simply like to review some impressive
and important work in philosophy, each member of the honor society receives
a subscription to the journal. Additionally, Texas Kappa frequently brings
outstanding philosophers to the UTSA campus to engage some of the most fascinating
philosophical issues.
We hope that you take the opportunity to join the international honor society,
Phi Sigma Tau. A one-time membership fee of $30.00 helps cover the
costs of the on-campus visits from top scholars and the printing and distribution
of Dialogue.
Undergraduate students are eligible for active membership if they meet or
exceed all of (i) - (iv) below:
(i) They have completed at least two semesters of college-level course work
(i.e., at least a sophomore rank)
(ii) Rank in the upper 35% of their class.
(iii) Have completed (or are currently registered in) at least two semester
courses in philosophy (at any level).
