Wendy Barker, Poet in Residence and
Professor of English, has received the
Violet Crown Book Award from the Writers'
League of Texas for her latest collection, a
chapbook of poems, Between Frames
(Pecan
Grove, 2006). The
award will be
presented at the
Texas
Book Festival on
November 3 in Austin. It carries
a $1,000 cash prize.

Norma Cantú was
presented with the Premerio Letras de Aztlan
Award for her tireless work on behalf of
Chicana/o studies scholarship and community
activism by the 2007 NACCS Tejas Foco
conference.
She
has also been honored as one of two new National
Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS)
Scholars for 2008. Dr. Norma Cantu was
