Course description: In this class we will study some of the stories, novels and plays written in this country in the period between the Civil War and World War II. Class will include lecture but emphasize discussion. 

Course requirements and grading:
Frequent pop quizzes=20%
In-class midterm=40%
Final exam=40%
Intelligent class participation will count if your grade is on the border.
Optional paper: If students choose to select this option, the midterm and final exam will each count 30% and the paper will count 20%. The paper has no effect on the 20% quiz grade.
