Daniel J. Gelo, Dean, Stumberg
Distinguished University Chair
Dear Alumni and Friends,
I am always excited to bring you news of our progress in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, but doubly so when our good work is being recognized beyond the boundaries of the campus.
I am proud to announce a $2 million gift from the Stumberg Foundation and the H-E-B Faculty Research Excellence Fund to establish the Stumberg Distinguished University Chair for the Dean of Liberal and Fine Arts. This endowed position is an investment in the future of UTSA, as the funds will be used to provide essential support to strengthen and advance the teaching, research, and outreach programs of our college.
Mary Pat Stumberg and her family share our vision of becoming a Tier One university, with a top tier College of Liberal and Fine Arts. It is advocates like the Stumberg Family and so many of you who understand that an education rich in the arts, humanities, and social sciences provides solid skills transferable across a lifetime of careers, but it also creates a lasting thirst for knowledge and a breadth and depth of mind and spirit that serve our graduates well in every facet of their lives.
I am greatly humbled by this gift, and on behalf of all of our incredibly hard working faculty and staff, am pleased to thank the Stumberg Family and our friends at H-E-B. We appreciate their recognition of what we do in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts - not only for the good of our students, but for the economic vitality of San Antonio and the state.
The addition of this generous gift helps us take a momentous step towards achieving COLFA's goal of $15M in the We Are UTSA Capital Campaign. We are proud to celebrate the milestone of the college reaching 70% our goal with two years remaining in the campaign.
I invite all of you, our alumni and friends, to continue with us on this journey, as we tell our story of success and celebrate the role of the liberal and fine arts in our lives, the lives of our students and our community.
