COLFA SCHOLARSHIPS

Thanks to a number of generous friends and alumni, the College of Liberal and Fine Arts is able to offer a wide variety of both college-wide and program-specific scholarships for its majors. Criteria vary for each award, so students should check the online and printed listings carefully for all scholarships for which they might qualify.

The most important things are to check the eligibility criteria, to meet the February 15 application deadline, and to be sure that the application is complete before it is submitted. Read the directions carefully and submit all information requested. For example, some applications must be accompanied by a written goals statement, essay, or letter of recommendation and would not be considered without all of the required documents.

If a scholarship is based on need, the applicant must have filed the appropriate paperwork and been determined eligible for financial aid through the Office of Student Financial Aid and Enrollment Services. Since the scholarship deadline is early in the calendar year, it is important to apply for financial aid as early as possible. All financial aid, including grants, loans, and work-study positions, begins with a form called the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available at high school counseling offices, community colleges, and universities or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
