Past COLFA Scholarships

The Alameda/UTSA Endowed Museum Internship

  • Award: Amount and number of awards vary depending on endowment distributions

  • Eligibility

    • Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used each year to fund an internship at the:
      • Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D. C.
      • UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures
      • Kennedy Center
      • or other cultural institutions as deemed appropriate by Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
    • The internship award shall be provided to a full-time or part-time GRADUATE student enrolled in a graduate program in Anthropology, Art History or History.


    *Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 20 credit hours toward their master’s degree.

    Amount of award varies depending on funds available. Past awards have been approximately $1,000, and are awarded just prior to the start of the internship.

  • Application Requirements

    • Completed Application
    • Essay - a 500-word narrative proposing the organization where they expect to complete their internship. The narrative should explain how the internship experience fits into their academic development and area of study, and what they hope to gain from the experience.


    *In consultation with the graduate advisors of record, applicants are responsible for making internship arrangements.

Dean’s Circle Scholarship

  • Award: $1,000

  • Eligibility

    • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared a major in any one of the disciplines in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
    • Must be enrolled full-time status (minimum of 12 semester credit hours for undergraduates and 9 semester credit hours for graduate students)
    • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

    • Completed application
    • Brief essay about why you have chosen your major and your plans after your graduation
    • Letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty members (transfer students may use faculty from previously attended college or university and incoming freshman may use a high school faculty member).

Dr. Mansour O. El-Kikhia Endowed Study Abroad Scholarship

  • Award: Amount and number of awards vary depending on endowment distributions

  • Eligibility

    • Enrolled in degree program within the department of Political Science and Geography at UTSA
    • Applicants must be enrolled to participate in a UTSA-organized study abroad opportunity
    • For summer applicants, students must be enrolled in a minimum of three (3) semester credit hours

Ernest And Aimee Bromley Endowed Presidential Scholarship In The Liberal Arts

  • Award: Amount and number of awards vary depending on endowment distributions

  • Eligibility

    • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared major in a liberal arts discipline within COLFA. Current liberal arts undergraduate majors in COLFA are: American studies, anthropology, communication, English, French, German, history, humanities, philosophy, classical studies, geography, political science, psychology, sociology, and Spanish. *Art and art history and music majors are not eligible for this scholarship.
    • Must be enrolled full-time status (minimum of 12 semester credit hours for undergraduates and 9 semester credit hours for graduate students)
    •  Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

The GEV Scholarship for COLFA Semester in Urbino, Italy

  • Award: $1,000

  • Eligibility

    • Must be a student actively pursuing a degree with a declared major in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
    • Student must register with the Office of International Programs/Study Abroad program
    • The award will be applied toward the costs associated with the student’s participation in a European educational travel experience, as approved by the Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts.
    • Selection of the recipient(s) will be made by an officially recognized committee of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
  • Application Requirements

    • The COLFA Semester Abroad, Urbino, Italy application
    • Proof of registration with the UTSA Office of International Programs/Study Abroad Program
    • Copies of travel program information and applications (as applicable)
    • Brief essay answering application questions
    • A letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member
    • Completed Budget Section of Application

John S. Jockusch Endowed Scholarship In The Liberal Arts

  • Eligibility

    • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared major in a liberal arts discipline within COLFA. Current liberal arts undergraduate majors in COLFA are:

    • Must have and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application and award year
    • Be enrolled full time, 12 hours (undergraduate) or 9 hours (graduate), during the year in which the award is received.

     *Art and art history and music majors are not eligible for this scholarship.

Kenneth Alan Hovey Endowed Memorial Scholarship

  • Eligibility

    • Undergraduate or Graduate Student
    • Major in Humanities, Philosophy & Classics, or English
    • Completed at least 60 hours (undergraduate)
    • Enrolled full-time (12 hours undergraduate and 9 hours graduate)
    • 3.0 GPA (undergraduate) and 3.5 GPA (graduate)

Mary Pat & Louis H. Stumberg Endowed Scholarship for Interdisciplinary Studies

  • Award: Amount and number of awards vary depending on endowment distributions

  • Eligibility

    Mary Pat and Louis H. Stumberg Endowed Scholarship for Interdisciplinary Studies in Music and the Sciences

    Undergraduate students who have a declared major in one of the following disciplines:

    • all disciplines in the College of Engineering
    • all disciplines in the College of Sciences
    • Anthropology
    • Communication
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
    • Other social and behavioral science disciplines


    with one of the majors above you must also have a declared minor in Music or Creative Writing. You may also have an arts major with a minor in one of the disciplines listed above.
    Graduate students may have research focus that involves science and art disciplines.

    • Completed online application form.
    • Brief essay (no less than 200 words) explaining the importance of music or creative writing in your intellectual and personal life. For graduate students, the essay should include an explanation of your research areas of focus. Please attach the essay to this application with name and Banner ID stated at the top.

Sue Jockusch Endowed Scholarship

  • Eligibility

    Fine Art Majors:

    • Graduate Students:
      • Full-time Enrollment (9 hours)
      • Hold a BA or BFA in art or related discipline or complete appropriate degree by the beginning of graduate level enrollment
      • 3.0 GPA
    • Undergraduate Students:
      • Full-time Enrollment (12 hours)
      • Actively pursuing a BA or BFA in art 
      • 2.5 GPA or above

    Music Majors:

    • Undergraduate and Graduate
    • Major in Music
    • Enrolled in at least 15 hours (undergraduate)
    • Enrolled in at least 6 hours (graduate)
    • 3.0 GPA

William V. Mastoris Endowed Scholarship Fund

    • Undergraduate, pursuing a degree in humanities* at UTSA
